Grammy nominated indie rock artist Phoebe Bridgers stopped by the ACL Moody Theater for a taping for Season 47 of the Austin City Limits television show on October 7, 2021. The California native is touring in support of her second solo album, Punisher, which she played in its entirety for her debut Austin City Limits taping.

A talented singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer, Bridgers released her first album, Stranger In The Alps in 2017. She then worked with the bands Boygenius and Better Oblivion Community Center before the release of her critically acclaimed sophomore album Punisher in 2020. Punisher garnered Phoebe four Grammy nominations in 2021 including Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance.

This was Bridgers' first indoor show in two years, having moved all of her concerts to outdoor venues to avoid problems with the Covid pandemic. That made for a different look for the Austin City Limits taping, as audience members, who are normally up front and personal with the artists, were not allowed on the floor of the venue. But even with that new stipulation, the party continued. Bridgers' band even donned skeleton print onesies for the show, which I'm fairly sure was a first for Austin City Limits.

Brittany Howard Rocks ACL TV Taping

Musician, singer-songwriter Brittany Howard entertained an enthusiastic audience at ACL's Moody Theater on October 6, 2021, in Austin, Texas during a taping for ACL TV. Austin City Limits, the longest running music series in television history, is wrapping up recording episodes for Season 47.

Brittany Howard

Brittany Howard is best known as the powerhouse lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for the Grammy Award winning rock band Alabama Shakes. With the band on hiatus since 2018, Brittany has taken on several other projects including recording a highly acclaimed debut solo album, Jaime, released in 2019. On this night, Brittany and an eight-piece band including backup singers, performed tracks from Jaime, including the 2021 Grammy Award winning "Stay High," and several classic covers including Stevie Wonder's For Once In My Life.

This was not the first appearance for Howard at Austin City Limits. She has appeared twice on the show with Alabama Shakes and also appeared on the 40th anniversary show. Brittany had originally been scheduled to record her solo appearance last year, but the pandemic caused that show to be canceled. It seems that Howard used that extra year to fine tune her performance because everything about this evening was perfection. From Brittany's sparkling sequined robe to the mind-blowing guitar shreds to the spectacular setlist, it all worked together to give the audience a special evening they won't soon forget. If you weren't able to attend this show in person, tune into PBS on November 20 when this episode is scheduled to run, and prepare to have your mind blown.

The 18 year old singer performed songs from her platinum certified debut album SOUR during her debut appearance on the show. Also lending to the list of firsts, Olivia's all-female five-piece band was a first in ACL TV history.

Olivia is best known for her breakup songs but she also seems to strive to empower young women to stand up for themselves and fight the pressure of social media shaming, which is all to prevalent these days. On this night, the large crowd of teens, and tween girls with their moms in tow, went wild for this new pop sensation. It looks like this young lady has a bright future ahead of her.

St Vincent Thrills Audience At ACL TV Taping

Grammy award-winning artist St. Vincent rocked the stage at ACL Live on September 30, 2021, when she appeared before a live studio audience for a Season 47 taping of the long-running PBS hit  television show Austin City Limits. This was St. Vincent's third appearance on the ACL TV stage.

St. Vincent was fronted by Dallas-raised art-rock musician, singer, songwriter, actress, and producer Annie Clark. Annie was joined on stage by the Down and Out Downtown Band. The band's members include Justin Meddal-Johnsen on bass, Jason Falkner on guitar, Rachel Eckroth on keys, and Mark Guiliana on drums. Also joining St. Vincent on stage were backup singers Nayanna Holley, Stevvi Alexander, and Danielle Withers and roadie, dancer, and "stunt double" Ariana Henry.

Having earned Grammy awards in both 2015 for Best Alternative Music Album for St Vincent and in 2019 for Best Rock Song for Masseduction, St. Vincent is now touring in support of her sixth solo album, Daddy's Home, which was released this year. The timing of the latest album release coincided with the release of Clark's father from prison, where he had been incarcerated since 2010.

St. Vincent's ACL Taping setlist was a wonderful mix of both old and new material. And with six  albums filled with innovative and intriguing music to chose from, Clark had no problem filling her one hour and 15 minute show with audience pleasing songs.

The show began with a trench-coat donning double (Ariana Henry) pretending to be Clark. But most fans weren't fooled and St. Vincent soon joined her band for sixteen tracks.

During some songs, St. Vincent exchanged rock licks with guitarist Jason Falkner while other times she appeared to be dueling with bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen. Having such accomplished musicians in her band made for excellent, powerful exchanges between all.

At one point, Ariana Henry appeared again, this time in a waitress costume, serving up drinks to the band. Clark took this opportunity to give a toast..."To Austin City Limits and our third time here, and to all of us being back together again."  Henry was seen frequently on stage as she acted as a roadie for Clark, changing out guitars for many songs and joining the band on stage as a dancer. Clark has her guitars custom made for her in different colors and changes them out for the different moods of each song.

The backup singers/dancers added a nice touch to each track. On "Sugarboy", the ladies waved bars of light as they danced across the stage. For "Live In The Dream," they sauntered around the stage in slow-motion as Clark sang relaxing vocals.
