2018 Old Settler's Music Festival

The 2018 Old Settlers Music Festival took place April 19 through April 22, 2018. The festival features acoustic jazz and blues, bluegrass, local favorites, and award-winning artists from around the world.

The first Old Settler's Bluegrass Festival was held in 1988 at Old Settler's Park in Round Rock, Texas. A move in venue brought about a name change, removing the Bluegrass designation and opening the lineup to more possibilities. This year the fest moved from its most recent home in Driftwood, TX to a ranch in Tilmon, TX outside of Lockhart.

Old Settler's has always been known for its family friendly atmosphere. The new location for the music festival has given much need space for more family camping areas, arts and crafts space, and kids' activities.

Limelight Imaging was honored to cover the final day of the festival, Sunday, April 22.

David Archuleta Inspires Audience In First Ever Austin Stop

American Idol alum and Season 7 runner-up, David Archuleta made his first tour stop in Austin on April 20, 2018.  Archuleta is touring in support of his latest studio album Postcards In The Sky.  Archuleta performed two shows at the intimate and very unique One World Theatre on Bee Caves Road, located in the beautiful, rolling hills of West Austin.

Before the show, concertgoers had the opportunity to feast on a delicious meal prepared and served at the One World Cafe.  The evening's pre-concert entertainment was provided by Geoff Kaiser.

The always gracious host for the evening's show was venue owner Hartt Stearns, who runs the venue with his wife Nada. The venue was originally built as a private residence in 1996 and converted into a theatre in 1999.

David Archuleta gained world-wide popularity when he appeared on Season 7 of American Idol at age 16 and 17.  Fast Forward 10 years and Archuleta still has a large, devoted fanbase, many of whom travel great distances each year to show their support to their favorite artist. After taking a two year hiatus from the music business to serve as a missionary for the LDS church, Archuleta has once again started recording and touring.

The platinum-selling artist has released 6 studio albums as well as a Christmas album since his time on American Idol. His latest, Postcards in the Sky, which was released in October 2017, is filled with inspirational and uplifting music and is definitely the best reflection of David himself and his perspective on life. Now that he is free of the constraints of a major record label, the sky is the limit. Archuleta is able to record and perform the music that he wants to produce. In that light, Archuleta was able to co-write the heartfelt songs he included on this latest album.

Bringing much joy to his fanbase, Archuleta recently announced he is working on a second Christmas album and I've heard rumors of a Spanish language one as well. New music means new tours. The excitement is growing amongst fans worldwide.

Accompanying David Archuleta on this tour are guitarist Nick Petty, bassist Desmond Whitney, and drummer Jay Tibbitts.  The band has a great, tight sound and blends well with David's unique style. They are lovingly referred to as The ArchuBand by many fans.

As a longtime fan of Archuleta, I have to say David is sounding amazing. I have seen him perform live on five other occasions and this was by far the most comfortable I have seen him on stage. For those of you that remember David on American Idol and think of him as that shy, awkward kid with the big voice who came in second to David Cook, it's time for you to make the effort to see him perform live now. You won't be disappointed! At least take the time to listen to his latest album Postcards In The Sky. You just might find something there that you can relate to and like.

Charity

David humbly uses his celebrity status to bring exposure to different charitable organizations working around the world. Many of these charities work with children. On his current tour, David introduces his fans to Holt International Children's Services. Holt works to help children around the world find stable homes through adoption, family strengthening, and child sponsorship. David shared photos and stories of children he met when he traveled to China with Holt and how these children touched his heart. In the merchandise area for the tour, those interested in helping this organization were provided with information on child sponsorship.

This was one amazing concert and very inspirational. David really put his heart and soul into the songs he performed. And the stories he told about why each of the songs were important for him to write, really helped the audience appreciate each choice even more. Oh, and in case you were wondering, that vocal chord paralysis that David suffered as a kid, that was talked about so much during his time on American Idol, I didn't see any such problem during this show. David was strong, and clear, and... perfect, as far as I could tell.

Thanks for stopping in Austin this time around, David! Don't be a stranger. Stop by anytime. There's always room for an awe-inspiring concert in "The Live Music Capital of the World." We hope to see you again on your next tour. Maybe even for a Christmas tour...???  It would be awesome to have you here again!
