Girls Night Out at ACL - Live

It was a night of fun, uplifting music when two of pop's brightest female stars, Colbie Caillat and Christina Perri,  hit the stage at Austin City Limits - Live at the Moody Theater on August 16, 2015 for "The Girls Night Out, Boys Can Come Too Tour."

As you can tell by the tour title, this one was for the ladies, although plenty men were in attendance in the audience as well. Both Caillat and Perri are known for their songs meant to empower women and encourage everyone to never give up on their dreams and this night was no different. With songs like Perri's "Human" talking about the vulnerability of being human and making mistakes and Caillat's "Try" telling women they don't need to try so hard to please others, a powerful, positive message that many need to hear was definitely delivered .

Jill Scott Brings Soul And Emotion To ACL - Live Theater

The soulful voice of three-time Grammy Award winner Jill Scott captivated the crowd at ACL - Live at the Moody Theater on August 15, 2015, when she stopped in Austin as part of her 25 city summer tour.

Miss Scott is on tour in support of her 5th studio album, Woman, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart for the week of August 15. Scott first made her mark on the music scene 15 years ago with her debut album Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol.1. Her 2011 release, The Light Of The Sun, also reached #1 status.

The reigning R and B queen performed for over an hour and a half, thrilling the sell-out crowd with tracks from some of her earlier albums in her "incredible 15-year journey" as well as tracks from Woman. Selections included "Gimme", "A Long Walk," "Closure," "Crown Royal," "He Loves Me," "Fool's Gold" and "Whatever" to name a few.

Jill Scott's timeless voice was backed by a ten-piece band and a trio of male backup singers, The Pipes. Utilizing her acting talents, Scott delivered her works with the passion of performance poetry. Her voice was technically brilliant and emotionally gripping. She showed her diverse vocal abilities by scatting during a performance of "Fool's Gold" while two of her backup singers beatboxed and switching between English and Spanish during "He Loves Me."

If you want to see for yourself why everyone is talking about Jill Scott, you better hurry. Time is running out on this summer tour, with only a few stops left to visit. Check her site for the details on the tour and her latest hit album.   http://www.missjillscott.com/

Austin Welcomes Whitesnake To ACL - Live

On Sunday, August 9, 2015 a packed house of fans proved that Classic Rock and Roll is still alive and well and appreciated here in the "Live Music Capital of the World," Austin, Texas, when Whitesnake took to the stage at ACL - Live at the Moody Theater . Whitesnake is on The Purple Tour in support of their 12th studio album, The Purple Album, featuring re-imagined songs from lead singer, David Coverdale's time with Deep Purple. This was Whitesnake's 44th stop on the 48 city U.S. tour before traveling to Japan and Europe later this year.

Whitesnake features lead singer and founding member, David Coverdale. After playing with several small, local bands in England, Coverdale joined Deep Purple in late 1973, singing lead vocals and helping to write many of the tracks included on the Burn and Stormbringer albums until March 1976 when he embarked on a solo career. In 1978, Coverdale formed the successful hard rock band Whitesnake.

During the band's 37 years of recording and performing, Whitesnake has seen a fair amount of musicians come and go, but the guys performing together on the ACL - Live stage on Sunday night played like they have been together forever. Working with Coverdale, were five other extremely talented and very experienced musicians.

Joel Hoekstra, Michael Devin, and Reb Beach of Whitesnake

Rocking the front of the stage with Coverdale were two guitarists any band would be lucky to have: Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra. Before joining Whitesnake in 2002, Reb Beach worked with Winger, Alice Cooper and Dokken, to name a few. Guitarist and vocalist, Joel Hoekstra toured with Nightranger and was a guitarist in the Broadway musical, "Rock of Ages." This past Christmas season, we saw Hoekstra rocking the stage with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Not to be out-done by his bandmates, Bassist Michael Devin, formerly of Lynch Mob, added a great power and energy to the show.

Since first joining the band in 2002, Drummer Tommy Aldridge has left and then returned to the band multiple times, the latest in 2013. Over the years, Aldridge has worked with many greats including Black Oak Arkansas, Pat Travers Band, Thin Lizzy, and Ozzy Osbourne. For a 65-year-old man, this guy didn't miss a lick on those drums and is better than most drummers half his age. The newest band member, keyboardist and backup vocalist, Michele Luppi from Italy, joined the band this year. His resume includes Secret Sphere, Killing Touch, and Vision Devine.

Whitesnake

With Whitesnake playing a mixture of tracks from The Purple Album and some of the hits from their eleven previous studio albums, the audience had ample occasions to sing as well as rock along with the band. Fans of Whitesnake had plenty to love about this show: awe-inspiring guitar solos, non-stop rocking drums beats, powerful vocals, and the ever popular wildly-flying rocker hair. If you love good old classic rock and roll,  take a chance and experience Whitesnake live on this tour. You won't be disappointed.

Hairspray Sizzles At Zilker Hillside Theater

It's Summer in Austin, Texas and several things are considered to be normal happenings here at this time of year:

1. Each afternoon, temperatures climb to somewhere near the century mark as the sun blazes through our cloudless blue sky.

2. Each evening, millions of Mexican free-tail bats soar through the sky as they leave the Congress Avenue Bridge in downtown Austin and travel over hundreds of miles in search of dinner.

3. Every day, thousands of locals and tourists beat the sweltering summer heat by diving into the refreshingly cool 68-degree waters of our favorite spring-fed oasis, Barton Springs Pool.

4. Each weekend, high-quality musical theater rocks the Zilker Hillside Theater across from Barton Springs as Zilker Theater Productions presents their annual Zilker Summer Musical.

This marks the 57th year of the Zilker Summer Musical and, once again, the production is a magnificent success. This time around Director Robert Tolaro and his very talented cast are presenting the Broadway Musical HAIRSPRAY.  The performances are each weekendThursday through Sunday, July 10 through August 15, 2015, at 8:15 PM. The production is a very family-friendly event and is priced just right. It's FREE. It can't get much better than that. (Of course, monetary donations are happily accepted.)

If you haven't ever been to one of these great Zilker Summer Musical productions, grab a picnic basket and a blanket and head on over to Zilker Park this weekend and see why this unique production of Hairspray is helping to "Keep Austin Weird."

If would like more information about the cast and production, please visit the website Zilker Theater Productions.

For those of you attending on Saturday evening, the cast throws a 1960s dance party starting at 6:30 PM for all of the kids in attendance.
