Austin, Texas is known as the "Live Music Capital of the World" and during SXSW, it is easy to see why. Acts from all over the world converge on Austin, hoping to be noticed by the right industry people. Every venue is jam-packed from open to close with musical acts of all kinds. But not all of the of the music performed during SXSW is found in the venues in and around downtown Austin.
One of the most unique shows takes place about 30 miles outside of Austin on the grounds of a former movie set. But this isn't just some run of the mill movie set. This set is located on the private ranch of the one and only country music icon, Willie Nelson and the set was used during the shooting of Willie's movie,
The Red Headed Stranger.
The Heartbreaker Banquet is a day-long event featuring some of the best in country, americana, rock and indie-folk music. The event took place on Thursday, March 19, 2015. As with many of Willie's events, part of the proceeds of this show went to benefit charity. This year's charities were Wholesome Wave, a non-profit working for sustainable food sources, and the SIMS Foundation, which provides mental health and addiction recovery to Austin musicians and their families.
