The Piano Man Fires Up San Antonio Audience

Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, composer, and pianist, Billy Joel performed in the round for a sold out show at the AT&T Center in San Antonio on December 9, 2016. This was Joel's first show in San Antonio in over 7 years and the only show in the state of Texas in 2016.

Joel is one of the most popular recording artists in history. He has sold over 150 million albums over the past quarter century. He is one of the highest grossing touring artists in the world, continually breaking attendance records for both stadiums and arenas.

In addition to his 33 Top 40 hits, Billy Joel has won 6 Grammy Awards and received the Grammy Legend award in 1992.  Joel received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2013. In 2014, Joel was awarded the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song and the ASCAP Centennial Award. He has also been inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

While Joel had many Top 40 hits in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, he hasn't released a new album since Fantasies & Delusions in 2001, but that was just fine with his ecstatic fans who were there to hear the classic Joel songs they've always loved. Joel added in a few covers to his setlist to keep the fans on their toes. Before launching into Your Song, Joel reminded the audience that the last time he was in San Antonio there was another piano man with him, Sir Elton John.

Having a huge, popular catalog of hits to chose from, Billy Joel allowed the audiennce to vote a couple of times as to which song they would perform: "The Longest Time" verses "An Innocent Man" and "Keeping The Faith" verses "The Entertainer."

The two and one half hour show was just what Joel's Texas fans had been hoping for and definitely one to remember.  Hopefully Joel felt the love and doesn't wait as long to make a return trip to the Lone Star State.
