2018 Willie Nelson 4th of July Picnic

The 2018 version of Willie Nelson's 4th of July picnic took place on the grounds of the Circuit of the Americas just outside of Austin on July 4, 2018, of course.  Willie and family, and a few of their friends, got together for a nice big party which included music, food, drinks, sunshine, and one uninvited guest - a thunderstorm.

Limelight Imaging was on hand to capture the event for Austin 360/Austin American Statesman A- List.  Here's the way the day unfolded.

The afternoon was sunny and quite warm, so picnic attendees searched for creative ideas to keep cool in the Texas heat...

Until the skies turned dark and the rain rolled in.  Then a storm warning required the venue to be evacuated.  Concertgoers were asked to return to their vehicles until it was deemed safe for them to return.

Sadly, several acts were unable to perform because of the weather delay including Jamestown Revival, The Wild Feathers, Asleep At The Wheel, Johnny Bush, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Billy Joe Shaver. But the "all-clear" was given just in time for another Nelson family member, Lukas Nelson.

Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real- featuring another of Willie Nelson's sons, Lukas Nelson

     Tato Melgar - percussion
     Anthony LoGerfo - drums
     Corey McCormick - bass, vocals
Jesse Siebenberg  steel guitar, Farfisa organ, vocals

It wouldn't be the 4th of July if there wasn't a great big fireworks show. Willie's Picnic didn't disappoint.
