Mardi Gras Hurrah in ATX

Mardi Gras festivities took to the streets of Austin, Texas as HONK!TX Brass Bands brought there New Orleans' style vibe to downtown on February 16, 2017.  The event was presented by Austin City Limits Live and 2nd Street District and started at Austin's newest venue, ACL's 3Ten.

3ten is located downstairs from the highly-touted Austin City Limits venue. The 350-person capacity showcase listening room presents smaller "house" shows of world-renowned, emerging, and local talent.

HONK!TX is a festival of over twenty community street bands presenting free performances in streets, parks, and neighborhoods throughout Austin. The bands all have diverse backgrounds and represent various performance traditions including New Orleans second line brass, European klezmer, Balkan and Romani music, and festivals like Mardi Gras and Carnaval.

The February 16th festival both began and ended at 3Ten's stage, but also paraded up on down Willie Nelson Blvd (Second Street) encouraging onlookers to join the band as they returned to the venue.
