Manilow Still Writes The Songs At Age 70

Grammy, Tony and Emmy award winner Barry Manilow performed to a sold-out audience at San Antonio’s AT&T Center on Saturday, June 29, 2013. The Songwriter’s Hall of Fame member was originally scheduled to entertain the San Antonio crowd in May, but was forced to reschedule due to bronchitis. To the audiences’ pleasure, there was no sign of the lingering effects of the illness on this night.

Manilow, who garnered his 50th song on the Top 40 Adult Contemporary Chart this past year, sounded terrific as he entertained the enthusiastic audience with many of their favorite songs. Barry was backed by a stellar nine-piece band and vocalists. In true Manilow style, he introduced each song with a story, telling the audience why he wrote it or who it was about. Barry also accompanied himself on piano and electronic keys on several songs.

Age hasn’t affected Manilow’s performing ability, as he still knows how to connect with a venue full of his admires. Barry told his audience “I was the Justin Bieber of the ‘70’s. It’s true; just ask your mother.”

Showing no signs of slowing down any time soon, Barry Manilow has written a new musical, HARMONY, which will be opening on Broadway in September 2013. He performed one of the songs from this show, EVERY SINGLE DAY, during his set this night.
