Keeping Austin Weird with Weird Al

Alfred Yankovic, aka Weird Al, stopped by the University of Texas Bass Concert Hall on July 12, 2016, as part of The Mandatory World Tour. While there, Weird Al regaled his audience with his own special original songs as well as interesting parodies of popular music. The singer, songwriter, parodist is touring in support of his 14th studio album, Mandatory Fun.

Weird Al received his first accordion at age 6. He was always considered a "nerd" since he started school a year earlier than other kids, skipped a grade, and graduated as the valedictorian of his high school class. He gave himself the moniker "Weird Al" when he was a radio DJ in college.

Weird Al's parodies was first heard on the 70's hit radio show, Dr. Demento in 1976. Since then Weird Al has sold over 12 million albums world-wide. He has earned 4 Grammy Awards including Best Comedy Album for Mandatory Fun.

Weird Al's band members are guitarist Jim "Kimo" West, bassist Steve Jay, keyboardist Ruben Valtierra, and drummer Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz. Schwartz, West, and Jay have been with Al since the beginning; Valtierra joined the group in 1991.
